I tried debugging this issue today with no luck. I will keep trying to see what is wrong.

But, thankfully I am not seeing this same error for any of the sites which I have preview deployments for (e.g. conda, conda-build, conda-docs). Whatever the problem is, it must be related to how this example site is set up.
